Is this your first time at the Four River Film Festival?
This is not my first year at the festival, I visited as a guest several times with some of my films and I used to come here privately and see other people’s works.
How satisfied are you with this year’s selection of films?
I won’t reveal anything in advance, but the films are great. It is important to consider both the context of this year and the children who make the films. There are really great works, and tomorrow we will decide which nine are the best ones.
Did you notice a common theme in this year’s works?
I didn’t notice a common theme, but I did notice a common mood. There are not that many happy films, most of them are very serious, as if young people no longer dare to make comedies. Maybe the thing is that they think difficult topics are more serious so they might leave a better impression on the audience.
You are a film editor, what is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is telling stories – it’s actually the basis of my job. Every job, i.e. project, is different; technically it’s always the same aspect, but each film has something of its own and can always be uniquely contributed to by helping the director, which is, for example, a way of telling a story.
You make both fiction and documentary films, what are the differences in editing them?
There are great differences between editing a fiction film and a documentary. Documentary films are more difficult to edit because they don’t have a given form; there is a screenplay, but things often change during the shooting, and even more during the editing, which can take you in a completely unknown direction. That is why even the topic of a documentary can change through the production process. Fiction films have a fairly solid form, which is the highest aspect of the artistic work of an editor and I prefer it. This, of course, does not mean that in a fiction film there is no possibility of change within the screenplay or the dynamics of the film.

When life gives me lemons, I eat them, along with the peel.
