The hybrid edition of the 2021 Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival reached record numbers: more than 14,000 viewers followed the competition program (online and in person) with a total reach of more than 208,500 people.
The growth, development and visibility of the Four River Film Festival are certainly supported by the fact that in 2021 we received as many as 1,415 films by high school authors, and the applications arrived from 99 countries from all continents.
Therefore, we presume that you have been looking forward to this day – the announcement that the applications for the new edition of the YFF and FRFF are officially open! If you are 14 to 20 years old and have completed your films after January 2020, you can submit your work until June 1st at the following link https://filmfreeway.com/FourRiverFilmFestival.
You can compete in four categories – feature, animated, documentary and freestyle film. The number of applications keeps growing each year, despite the unfavorable and critical events in the world, testifying to the great interest of young filmmakers for these film events, both in our region and internationally. Understanding them as important platforms for the work, encouragement and further motivation of young filmmakers is becoming more important than ever.
The Festivals, organized by the Croatian Film Association and the Karlovac Cinema Club, will turn Karlovac yellow once again from September 6th to 10th, 2022.
The selection committee for the 27th Youth Film Festival and the 15th Four River Film Festival consists of dr.sc. Ana Đordić, professor of Croatian language and philosophy, film critic Boško Picula and director of photography Dinka Radonić.
The films at these Festivals do not end upon leaving the cinema! In addition to high school films in the competition program, the YFF and FRFF are known for their accompanying educational programs that enrich and support the work of high school students year in, year out. Every September, our participants’ days are filled with practical workshops and masterclasses, round tables and debates, presentations by our partner organizations, excursions, performances by bands, and evening screenings of professional films.
The winners of previous editions of the Festival (directors, editors, cinematographers) who are nowadays successful professionals in the film world know that these Festivals are very good stepping stones in further filmmaking.
